Value Deals on Sporting Goods in Tokyo: A Guide to Kanda Ogawamachi Sports District
On my most recent trip to Tokyo, I was tasked with finding a particular snowboard for a friend. After scouring the internet for the best deals on sporting goods, I discovered the Kanda Ogawamachi sports district. This area, nestled in Chiyoda City, is renowned for its wide array of sports equipment and gear, making it a go-to destination for both locals and tourists. Depending on the time of year, you might find incredible deals. I visited during the Golden Week and at the end of the snow season, which meant snowboard and ski equipment were heavily discounted. However, there is a risk of leaving empty-handed, as some stores had already transitioned their stock from snowboards to surfboards due to the changing season.
Whether you're into running, climbing, hiking, golf, baseball, cycling, skiing, snowboarding, surfing, skateboarding, or tennis, Kanda Ogawamachi has something for everyone. Here’s a guide to navigating this sports haven and finding the best value deals.
Mega Stores and Smaller Shops Galore
Kanda Ogawamachi is lined with both mega stores and smaller, specialized sports shops, offering a variety of options for every type of athlete. During my visit, which coincided with Golden Week, I found even more discounts on top of the usual competitive prices. Here are some of my favorite stores that you shouldn't miss:
Victoria Main Store
Address: 3 Chome-4 Kanda Ogawamachi, Chiyoda City, Tokyo 101-0052, Japan
Victoria Main Store is a large multi-floor store that caters to a wide range of sports. Whether you’re looking for the latest running shoes or ski equipment, Victoria’s extensive selection and knowledgeable staff make it a top choice. The store often features seasonal sales, making it a great spot to score discounts.
London Sports
Address: Japan, 〒101-0052 Tokyo, Chiyoda City, Kanda Ogawamachi, 2 Chome−3−7 松岡小川町ビル
London Sports is another gem in the district, known for its great deals on various sports gear. The store offers a mix of new and slightly older models, often at significantly reduced prices. It’s a fantastic place to find bargains, especially during sale periods. No pictures just because the store was really cram and I was afraid to knock things off.
The Suns
Note: This was the only shop along the entire street that carried Moss Snowboards and Gentem Stick. If you are into powder boards, I highly recommend this shop!
Address: 2 Chome-5-17 Kanda Ogawamachi, Chiyoda City, Tokyo 101-0052, Japan
Note: End of season meant lots of final sales.
The Suns is perfect for those interested in surfing, skateboarding, and snowboarding. The shop’s friendly atmosphere and expert staff make it a pleasure to browse through their extensive inventory. Like the other stores, The Suns offers excellent deals, particularly during promotional events.
There were also some other shops which the staff at The Suns recommended me to check out but I cannot seem to find them online. I suggest spending half a day just strolling along the entire street and taking your time to hunt for bargains in the shops.
Note: They didn’t have my size but THIS IS SUCH A GOOD PRICE!
Note: How many autographs do you recognise? HAHAH
Tips for Maximizing Your Shopping Experience
Visit During Sale Periods: If possible, plan your visit during Golden Week or other major Japanese holidays. Stores often offer substantial discounts during these times, allowing you to maximize your savings.
Bring Your Passport: Many stores in Kanda Ogawamachi offer tax refunds on the spot for foreign tourists. By bringing your passport, you can save an additional 10% on your total bill, making those deals even sweeter.
Explore Both Large and Small Shops: While mega stores like Victoria offer a vast selection, smaller shops often have unique items and better deals on niche products. Take the time to explore both to find the best prices and selection.
Ask for Assistance: The staff in these stores are usually very knowledgeable and can help you find exactly what you need. Don’t hesitate to ask for advice or recommendations. I used google translate to communicate with some of the staff as well.
Final Thoughts
The Kanda Ogawamachi sports district is a treasure trove for anyone looking to purchase sporting goods in Tokyo. With its combination of large stores and specialized shops, you’re sure to find the equipment and gear you need at great prices. Whether you’re gearing up for a new sport or upgrading your existing equipment, Kanda Ogawamachi is the place to be. Happy shopping!
